Visual novel-styled supernatural mystery adventure from Square Enix coming to PC and Nintendo Switch
The line between a unique gift and a curse can often be a fine one, and it's particularly blurry in Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, a rapidly upcoming new supernatural mystery from Square Enix.
As its title suggests, the game is set in the neighbourhood of Honjo, Tokyo during the Showa period from 1926-1989. Rather than a single cohesive tale, Paranormasight represents a "multi-layered collection of spine-chilling ghost stories centred around several protagonists who possess the 'power of curses.'" Players will control several different accursed characters throughout the game while investigating Honjo's unexplained mysteries. During the day you will "explore mysterious areas of the city, solve puzzles and find new clues to help ... unravel the hopes, dreams and fears of these unique characters." When the sun goes down, however, you will find yourself having to "hunt or be hunted by other curse bearers." To succeed you'll not only need to master your own powers, you must also figure out "how not to fall foul of the predations of those held by others during this supernatural ordeal."
Based on real-world Japanese urban legends, Paranormasight is a visual novel-styled adventure that sends players deep into the "haunted underbelly of Honjo," where you'll be immersed through "ambient, panoramic views of Sumida City." In keeping with the game's authentic inspiration, each place you visit has been photographed from actual locations using a a 360-degree camera with "the full co-operation and support of the Sumida City Tourism Division, the local museum, the tourist association, and the local community."
Perhaps the best part of all is that Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo is nearly due for release, with a launch on Steam to occur on March 8th and the Nintendo eShop for Switch the following day. According to the announcement teaser, a mobile version is also planned for iOS and Android devices somewhere further down the line.
