Demo for comedic hand-drawn ghostbusting adventure also available for download on Windows and Mac
When there's something strange in your neighbourhood, who ya gonna call... Well, probably best not to call the titular ghostbusting company in Roland Wejner and Robin Bretschneider's newly released comedic point-and-click adventure, Spiritless Ltd., but you may just have a whole lot of fun finding out why.
Spiritless Ltd. is a company that specializes in catching and trapping ghosts. At least, so the brochures say. In truth, it's a rather dubious venture with only two employees: a good-natured, large blue troll-like creature named Charles Stone, and an irritable, somewhat unscrupulous duck boss named Hank. When yet another trap of theirs is reported by a client as malfunctioning, Charles is ordered to "repair the faulty machine in an old mansion in the outer borough." Easier said than done, however, because "as he arrives the trouble is about to begin."
Set in a "monster-occupied world, in which annoying ghosts are likely to be a part of your everyday world," Spiritless Ltd. is a charming-looking hand-drawn adventure in the style of the 2D point-and-click classics, supported by English subtitles translated from the original German. Its "weird story" promises to be filled with "spirited innuendoes, witty dialogues [and] freaky characters," along with plenty of puzzles to solve and unusual items to collect and combine, such as a "a high-performance hair dryer or even a uranium rod." If you need a little help in figuring out how to deal with both the very natural and supernatural obstacles in your path, a built-in hint system will get you back on track.
Anyone up for a little chuckle-inducing paranormal adventuring can hunt this one down right away, as Spiritless Ltd. is available now on Steam. If you'd like to test drive it first, a playable demo can be download directly from the developer's website. (The site is in German, but the demos come with localized English options.)
