First-person "psycho-thriller" from Pixelsplit and Daedalic Entertainment coming to PC this year

Circuses are supposed to be fun, uplifting places of laughter and merriment, but beneath the happy façade there often seems to be a dark side of unspoken secrets and even unseen malevolence. If the very thought sends a shiver down your spine, then you're the prime target audience for Reveil, an upcoming first-person "psycho-thriller" by indie German developer Pixelsplit.

Walter Thompson wakes up alone, in pain, and disoriented. Things around him seem familiar, and yet not quite right, with no sign of his wife Martha or daughter Dorie. Trying to remember what led him to this place, all he can recall are his former days as a circus stage builder. In order to find answers to "what his dark past at the Nelson Bros Circus" has to do with all this, Walter must carefully explore his environment in search of clues, but "as things get crazier and more bizarre, the lines between reality, memory, and imagination become more and more blurred." He soon realizes there's no way out of this nightmare but to go through its "maelstrom of deceptive impressions, memory fragments and mysterious visions," desperately clinging to his remaining shreds of sanity in the ever-dwindling hope of finding his family and getting them all out alive.

Presented in beautiful first-person 3D, Reveil is a narrative-driven psychological horror adventure that "focuses on story, puzzles and exploration" with an emphasis on "atmospheric gameplay in claustrophia-inducing environments filled with mysteries." Its setting is inspired by the circuses of the 1960s, but with "surreal features" that "become darker, more mysterious, more enigmatic the further you advance." Along the way there will be a variety of "versatile, handcrafted" puzzles to solve, even as you attempt to balance the increasingly disturbed psyche of its protagonist.

While no firm release date has yet been announced, Reveil will be published by Daedalic Entertainment and is on track to launch on Steam for Windows PC sometime before the end of this year.
