Snowman Story gets rolling on Steam

PC port of seasonal pixel art narrative adventure available now for Windows, Mac and Linux

Snowmen-come-to-life stories are all charming and whimsical until the inevitable reality that snowmen MELT. So what to do when the weather turns warm and finding a place to stay frozen becomes a matter of life and death? This is the plight of the titular character in Snowman Story, a former mobile-exclusive pixel art narrative adventure now available on PC.

After a heavy snowfall, a young boy makes a snowman named Chris on the outskirts of a forest. Magically, Chris comes to life but is soon confronted by the need to escape before the spring thaw. And so he sets out on a quest to "find a fabled land far to the north," promising safe haven to all those like him who thrive only in freezing temperatures. Along the way he'll meet "a whole host of woodland critters who’ll guide him on his way and offer assistance with the game’s icy puzzle challenges." But the risks are not to be taken lightly, as Chris will also encounter the recorded memories of those who came before him, each with "their own tragic tale to tell of how they tried and failed to make the very same pilgrimage." Only by taking these "cautionary tales" to heart and learning from his predecessors' mistakes can Chris hope to succeed where they did not.

Presented in gorgeous pixel art, Snowman Story takes players through a variety of scenic winter settings on the way to the legendary "arctic paradise," from icy ponds to hot springs to a polar bear's mountain cave. Originally displayed only in portrait mode for mobile devices, the optimized PC port features a more traditional landscape view, allowing a "larger, more detailed depiction of the game world." There are additional quality-of-life improvements as well, including controller support, unique "voice effects" for every character, and improved localization from the game's original Japanese, ensuring a "much more entertaining, heartwarming, and emotional experience."

The mobile version of Snowman Story is still available (free with in-app purchases) on the App Store and Google Play, but the new and improved PC port can now be downloaded from Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux.
